The mood in Lincoln (Neb.) following the Nebraska Cornhuskers' win over No. 9 Wisconsin was pure jubilation. The atmosphere inside the Pinnacle Bank Arena just before tip-off: just as celebratory — thanks to Mike Peltz's rousing on-court marriage proposal.
After taking the microphone in front of a sellout crowd of 15,998 on Senior Night, Peltz first reiterated some ground rules during his pregame introduction. "You all know the rules and there's no sitting or kneeling of any kind," the senior guard reminded the crowd to reinforce the team's "No-Sit Sunday" request to keep fans on their feet.
But then, documented beautifully by the Big Ten Network, Peltz made "an exception" to that rule by getting down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend Shelby Campbell at mid-court.
Her reaction was a lot like his teammates' and the home crowd's: stunned and overjoyed. Two halves later, Husker fans were treated to even more excitement as Nebraska upset Wisconsin to close in on its first NCAA tournament bid since 1998.
